Privacy
What mobmet.com collects, why it collects it, and what you can do about it.
Reading the site
You can read mobmet.com without an account and without telling us who you are. Two things happen while you read.
A count per article. Opening a post adds one to a number stored against that post. It is a single total — no record is kept of who read what, when, or from where.
Two preference cookies. Choosing a theme or a reading font stores that choice in a cookie named mobmet-theme or mobmet-font. They hold nothing but the name of the option you picked, so the page can be rendered the way you left it. Clearing them costs you nothing but the preference.
Accounts and comments
Registering stores your name, your email address and a one-way hash of your password — never the password itself. You may add a short biography and a link to a profile picture; both are optional and both are shown publicly next to anything you write.
A comment stores its text, the account that wrote it, the post it answers, and when it was written. Comments are public.
Signing in sets a cookie named mobmet-session, which identifies your account to the site and nothing else. It is marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read it, and it is sent only from this site.
Advertising
This site carries advertising from Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve those ads and to measure them, and may use what they gather to show you advertising based on your visits here and to other sites.
That data goes to Google, not to us. We receive totals — how many times an ad was shown, how many times one was clicked — and never learn which reader did either.
You can control what Google does with it at My Ad Center, and see how it handles data across its services at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Opting out of personalised advertising for many networks at once is possible at aboutads.info.
Some ads may come from networks other than Google. Where they do, the code those networks supply runs on the page and their own privacy policies apply to it.
What we do not do
There is no analytics package on this site, no tracking pixel of our own, and no newsletter. We do not sell anything about you, because we do not hold anything worth selling. Nothing here is shared with anyone except the advertising described above.
Images from elsewhere
Article images and profile pictures are often served from other people’s servers. Loading one tells that server your IP address and browser, the same as visiting any page would. We choose the addresses; we do not control what the servers behind them log.
Your choices
Cookies can be blocked or cleared in your browser. Blocking the two preference cookies means the site forgets your theme and font. Blocking the session cookie means you cannot stay signed in.
You can edit or empty your name, biography and picture from your profile at any time. To have an account and its comments deleted, write to us.
Getting in touch
Questions about any of this, or a request about your own data, can go to privacy@mobmet.com.
Changes
When what the site does changes, this page changes with it. There is no version history — what is written here is what is true now.
